About

The Barnes Family Foundation

The Barnes Family Foundation exists to build strong foundations for every child by promoting early literacy, supporting youth mental health, and ensuring career readiness for future success. We believe that when children are equipped with the ability to read, the resilience to thrive, and the tools to pursue their dreams, they can change the world.

Focus Areas

HOW WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Early Literacy

We champion the belief that reading is a civil right. Our work focuses on:

  • Supporting access to high-quality books in under-resourced communities
  • Partnering with schools and libraries to increase family literacy engagement
  • Advocating for evidence-based reading instruction and early childhood literacy initiatives

Mental Health

We support programs that foster emotional well-being and mental resilience:

  • Partnering with schools to expand access to mental health services
  • Providing training and tools for educators to support social-emotional learning (SEL)
  • Funding trauma-informed practices and wellness programming for students and families

Career Readiness

We believe every student should leave school ready for life. We invest in:

  • Mentorship and internship programs that connect students to real-world careers
  • Exposure to skilled trades, entrepreneurship, and college pathways
  • Initiatives that help students discover their purpose, voice, and future possibilities
